We have a number of varied, exciting and rewarding roles to offer you. If you have time to spare, and would like to help those in need in your community, please contact us and see how you can make a difference to their lives.
Our Befrienders’ visits get matched with a family who they visit regularly. Visits are usually monthly. Befrienders offer a listening ear to families who are often in difficult situations. Walking alongside families in this way often leads to a special long-term relationship with the families.
Visits often take place in Client’s home but can be held in libraries, cafés or even out for a walk. Training and support are available as well as a Coordinator who is available to talk through issues that families may be experiencing.
Time commitments are around 1.5 hours per month. 1 hour for visit plus 30 minutes for reporting back or raising any concerns.
Our new Bedding team will start meeting fortnightly on Thursdays at 10:30am in our stores at Martin Way Methodist Church. During this time, we will check bedding that has been donated, measure it and prepare packs of bedding required for families. We often find families moving into properties with very little, so bedding can make an enormous difference.
Sessions are likely to run for about 2 hours depending on the number of donations received. There is no commitment to come frequently.
Our existing volunteer who organises our Annual outing to Littlehampton wishes to step down, so we would like a new volunteer to shadow her during 2025 to ensure a smooth transition. We book a coach for a group of families to have a day at the seaside and fair at Littlehampton. This outing is always much enjoyed by families and the volunteers accompanying them! As well as organising bookings for the coach and fair, there is also helping to coordinate the families that we invite, to ensure that they are able to come and that they have the correct timings and collection locations. Activity starts in February when we book the coach till after the trip takes place in mid-August.
The time commitment varies, around 1-2 hours per week, more in the lead up to the trip plus the day itself!
An exciting new position for a volunteer to join us in supporting families. Ideally, you will already have some knowledge of family budgets and other charities that might provide support or have worked with families in the past or just be keen to learn. We like to work with all the families we provide regular support to, to understand their situation and help them access support. Internal and external training will be available to support this new role. This role will involve meeting with families either in a public place or in their homes although this could mainly be based on one location.
Time commitment needs to be at least 2 hours per week to ensure the volunteer has enough time to stay up to date and provide support to at least one family.
We deliver food and supermarket vouchers to some families each month. These deliveries take place on the 2nd and 3rd Mondays of each month. We would appreciate volunteers who are able to deliver to one or two families on these days, after collecting the items from our office in Martin Way Methodist Church. The majority of our volunteers drive but we do have a volunteer who makes deliveries by public transport.
Time commitment is 1-2 hours per month on 2nd or 3rd Monday of the month.
