Christian CARE is a charity working in the London Borough of Merton. We are a group of 40 volunteers from 16 different churches. We welcome and offer help to anyone whatever their race, colour or religion. Each year we support over 150 families whose lives are in crisis.
On Saturday 28 January Christian CARE began the celebrations to mark its 50th year with a wonderful party for parents and children.
On Saturday 20 May we held the major event of the year, a service at Martin Way Methodist Church attended by 100 guests and followed by a tea.
Mrs Gwen Hyde, wife of our Founder Bert Hyde, cut the celebration cake surrounded by her family.
When times are difficult and stressful, we have befrienders who can listen and offer support. When there is no food, we can bring an emergency parcel. When there is no money to buy furniture for that empty flat, we have second-hand furniture in store. When a new baby arrives we have the essentials ready as well as clothes for young, growing children.
We are always looking for new volunteers for the team. If you are interested in being a befriender, a shopper, in driving the furniture van, helping with youngsters or have administrative skills, click on Volunteer with us for current vacancies.
If you have furniture, white goods, bedding, items for a new baby, clothes for children up to age 11 which you could donate, or if you would like to donate food for our families or even organise a food collection at your church or school, go to our Supporting us page or click here for a list of our current requirements.
On Friday 2 June it was announced that Christian CARE had won the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service.
